St E’s and the Spirit of Giving
One of the Pillars of our Parish’s Ignite Renewal program is based on Service and Charity activity. As part of Ignite, a group of your fellow parishioners have been involved in the Service and Charity Pillar Team, with our mission to enhance our parish’s service and charity activities through soliciting volunteers, coordinating activities between ministries, seeking new opportunities for charitable activity, and providing spiritual support and fellowship opportunities to our various ministers.
One of the great joys our Pillar Team has experienced is observing the deep spirit of charitable giving permeating our parish. This holiday season has seen several charitable activities where our parish community has gone above and beyond in its response to providing a helping hand to those in need. Among these were 70 Thanksgiving baskets assembled from food donated by our parishioners, providing holiday meals to local families in need. When Fr. Stan put out a plea for turkey donations, we were overwhelmed with the response. More than enough were donated to cover our parish needs, to the point where we were also able to donate turkeys to neighboring towns and the Fr. English Center in Paterson (with some still left over for distribution at Christmas).
St. E’s SPARK Youth Ministry is energetically involved in charity efforts serving the dual purposes of helping our community as well as teaching our younger parishioners the rewards of giving. SPARK activities have included outreach to senior residents of the Mount Olive Manor, as well as preparing meals for the Community Soup Kitchen in Morristown. SPARK also sponsored our recent coat drive, resulting in 312 coats being donated to Jersey Cares. You may have noticed a storage container in our parking lot. This belongs to Jersey Cares and is used as an assembly point for coats from our parish as well as other local organizations.
Over the Christmas season our Parish Giving Tree and Toy Drive activities are additional great examples of St. Elizabeth Parishioners giving from their hearts to help those who are less fortunate.
Every day we hear stories of how people are self-centered and all they care about are themselves. Far from that, the example set by the people of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish shows us the true spirit of Christianity is alive and thriving in our modern world.
