In our Gospel today, we hear the words of God, our Father, say “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, listen to Him.”
We, as dedicated followers, are always trying to listen more closely to our beloved Jesus. Especially during Lent, we want to dedicate more time to our prayer life and to the worship of our Lord. We invest additional effort in our studies of God’s Holy Word. We know that studying the Scriptures will help to bring us closer to God, as we improve our understanding. We focus our attention on developing a much closer relationship with Jesus, reminding ourselves, once again, of our Lord’s ultimate sacrifice for our sins.
During our Lenten journey of sacrifice and self denial, we need to consider how deeply our Lord treasures us. We must think of ourselves as God’s beloved children. We should strive to become more like Jesus. We need to become more loving and more merciful to each person we meet. There is so much distrust and fear in our world today, imagine if we were to share acceptance and gentleness instead? Let us try to be a daily blessing to one another and be present to those who are struggling on this, our journey home.
I pray that your Lent will be a very special reflective time, during which you grow ever closer to our Lord and Savior.
